  • Kenneth Topp
Kenneth Topp was born in Kincardineshire, Scotland, overlooking the North Sea. Growing up on a dramatic coastline of cliffs, caves and headlands instilled in him a great love and understanding of geology and natural history.

At an early age his interest in architecture and gardens developed and he went on to study sculpture at the Edinburgh College of Art. He was also awarded the Royal Scottish Academy student sculpture award, along with the Royal Society of Arts design bursary.

Topp eventually moved to London, attending Chelsea College of Art to do an MA in Theory and Practice of Public Art and exhibited at the ICA. After a stint working with architects in New York, Topp returned to London, continuing to collaborate with architects, art consultants and garden designers, where he rediscovered his interest in gardens.

In terms of inspiration for his work, Topp describes: “When growing up in Scotland I remember people coming to the house to sell things and camped in the nearby wood. The old buckets and rhubarb forcers in the kitchen garden were probably made by them, as were the riveted coppers once found in every washhouse and kitchen from Aberdeen to Istanbul”.

Kenneth Topp’s Bronzino urchin plant pots at CoutureLab are created from tin-plated copper and showcase his fascination with working with such materials.
