A by-word for exceptional quality for over 150 years
In 1850 Alessandro Giuseppe Borsalino left an apprenticeship in Italy for the bright lights of Paris to pursue his dream of becoming a master hat maker. After obtaining his trade certificate, Borsalino returned to Italy armed with his expert skills and a spirited passion for the craft. It was with his brother, Lazzaro, in 1857, that the family company was born. Just over a decade later, Borsalino was producing 300 hats on a daily basis, transforming what was originally an artisan dream, into a successful business.
Subsequent to Giuseppe’s death in 1900, the company remained in the family, passing through two generations of Borsalinos. The decades to come were particularly tough as hat-wearing drifted out of favor and the factory was struck, on two occasions, by bombs during World War II. Despite the continued pressures that the company was faced with, it managed to maintain its reputation for working with the most skilled artisans and sourcing the finest materials.
Borsalino saw a revival in 1970 with the launch of the self-titled film “Borsalino” starring French actors, Alain Delon and Jean Paul Belmondo. Such a success, it was followed three years later with a sequel, “Borsalino & Co”.
Today, Borsalino’s hats are created to the same high standards as they were over 150 years ago. The collection for men and women at CoutureLab showcases the rare talents of a master hatter and epitomizes the brand’s classic style.
