Designer Profile

Fedora
Federica Tondato was born in Torino, Italy in 1968. Having studied at the Architectural Association in London Tondato then studied for her second degree in Milan, obtaining a master's in Design from the Domus Academy. A further degree in architecture from Columbia University in 1995 ensured extensive knowledge of structure and design.

In the year 2000 Tondato opened Fedora Design in New York, the city where she has lived for thirteen years, producing rugs and tapestries. She sees carpet design as a form of architecture - graphic designs and interesting shapes give a sense of form and space to a two dimensional item. In 2002 Natalia Gomensoro joined Fedora design as an art director, working closely with Tondato in product development.

Tondato's designs are influenced by the earth's topography and patterns hidden in nature both on a microscopic and macroscopic dimension.

These rugs are hand-embroidered in India and are hand-woven in Nepal, and the incredibly soft cushions have been hand-stitched from the finest silk yarns, and are backed in 100 % cotton. All of the designs have been created exclusively for CoutureLab. CoutureLab has been involved from the design stage to the end-product, ensuring a unique addition to your home.
