Designer Profile
Paola Napoli
Paola was born and raised in Rome, exposed to the beautiful craftsmanship for which Italy is renowned. As a young girl she began to design her own clothes and accessories which she then had
handmade by local artisans. "I always liked unique things that no one else had". With this discerning attitude she discovered different materials and techniques to realize her designs. "I remember as a child going to my mother's shoemaker; selecting from the hundreds of leathers stocked at the back of his workshop to realize the shoes I had imagined and later the pride with which I wore the finished product!" Consequently Paola developed her love and appreciation for the unusual and finely crafted; always caring for the smallest details.
Despite her passion for design, Paola took a degree in Political Science, worked in Madrid and London as a journalist writing a column on design. It was this work that led back to her real passion. "I realized I was much more fascinated with the designers' work and with spending time in their atelier, than I was with writing about them." As a result she returned to College to study jewelery making; learning to use the tools and techniques of the artisans she had long admired.
Paola's jewelry was exhibited at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London in 2005.
The jewelry available at CoutureLab is made from 18 ct. gold, which is combined with different materials such as precious woods from Africa and Asia, seashells from the Pacific, Mother of pearl from Tahiti and gemstones.
