The days of men wearing hats are back. One of the simplest accessories, a hat can transform an outfit and define a style in an instant. Iconic hat wearers such as Sinatra, Bogart and Churchill, were rarely seen without their felt fedora or classic bowler and each one wore their trusty headgear with courtly confidence and aplomb. There is nothing that speaks individuality more than a well-suited hat and where better to get it from, than historic hatter, Borsalino.

Borsalino takes hat-making very seriously, understandably considering the company has survived everything from world wars to falling demand. It seems that the secret of its success lies in the hands of its skilled artisans - founder Giuseppe Borsalino has been described as having: "the most skilled hatter's hands ever seen".
Made in much the same way as they were 150 years ago, using antique wooden blocks, Borsalino's hats are created using a method of steaming the felt, followed by stages of stretching, stiffening and sanding, along with a second shaping process to give the cloch its final shape. It is this attention to detail and dedication to tradition that finds Borsalino amongst the shelves at CoutureLab.

A familiar fixture on the heads of Al Capone, actor Johnny Depp and Canadian Mounties alike, the luxury hatter is not afraid to stick to its traditional roots. With the resurgence for Rat Pack nostalgia and a growing preference for handcrafted luxury and timeless design, it is clear that any man adept at using his head will be stepping out in a Borsalino hat for many years to come.

The Borsalino Montecristi Extrafine takes six months to create.
Firstly, the "rosetta" is created for the center of the crown using eight fiber threads from the stalks of unopened Ecuadorian talipot leaves.
Further straw threads are then woven into the web until the edge of the hat is reached.
"Finishers" then complete the hat by looking out for small holes or different colored straw and then correct any errors.
Careful not to over-work the Montecristi, it is carefully molded with
a little steam.
The panama is then finished with
a traditional hat band.1700s - Napoleon swaps his black conqueror's hat for a magnificent Montecristi.
1900s - Theodore Roosevelt is featured on the front pages of the newspapers wearing a Panama.
1940s to present - The panama is adopted by Hollywood's greats, including: Anthony Hopkins, Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan, Brad Pitt, Don Cheadle and Gregory Peck.
