- Approaching the front of Alfred Dunhill’s new home, Bourdon House in London’s Mayfair, it’s clear that this is going to be a very British affair – and so we would expect. With over a century of history, it seems apt that such a brand should choose the former residence of the Duke of Westminster as its latest abode. Behind the dark door of the restored grade two listed Georgian building stands three floors of Dunhill heritage.
- Catering to the modern gentleman’s needs, the wood panelled ground floor showcases Dunhill’s range of clothes and accessories, but Bourdon House is so much more. The second floor boasts a spa with two treatment rooms and a traditional men’s barber, as well as a museum that documents the brand’s illustrious history. It is this heritage that makes Dunhill what it is today.
- It was in 1893 that the dawn of the motor car beckoned and a young Alfred Dunhill took over his family’s saddlery business in London. Seizing the opportunity to exploit the interest in this new form of transport, Dunhill branched out into motor accessories and his new Motorites shop included everything from leather driving coats to helmets, car horns and luggage. With a passion for innovation and the unusual, Dunhill also created accessories for pilots named the "Avorites" range, as well as fishing rods and cricket wear. It is Alfred Dunhill’s untamed enthusiasm for expertly handcrafted goods that continues to drive the brand today.
- With British actor Jude Law as the international face of Dunhill, it’s clear that the bar has been raised when it comes to appealing to the contemporary gent.
The basement level of Bourdon House accommodates a private cinema and lounge area – even the sound system is British made. The building also boasts Alfred’s – the brand’s inaugural private members club which includes a restaurant with even a resident sommelier.
Truly believing that the Dunhill gentleman is seeking a complete lifestyle, this is not the first time that the brand has ventured into the world of cuisine, as Alfred’s Dining Room and the Dunhill Den at Tom Aiken’s Tom’s Kitchen in London’s Chelsea, are already celebrated gourmet experiences. - Despite Dunhill’s remarkable development since its humble beginnings, it is still the quality of the workmanship of each piece that sets the brand apart.
Fanatical attention to detail mixed with understated luxury and a loyalty to British craftsmanship is something that makes each of Dunhill’s pieces at CoutureLab a testament to modern luxury.
