This angular mask has been finely crafted and painted by the hands of artisans in Zaire from a single piece of the rosewood. It has been created as a representation of a guru mask in relation to the Chokwe tribe found on the Atlantic coastline. Such sacred protection masks are often honored during sacrificial gatherings to warn off evil spirits.
