Diamond and Pink-Sapphire “Maasai” Choker
Roumeguere for CoutureLab
Tribal-inspired necklace, hand-crafted in Kenya
Tap the authentic shapes, colors and allure of Africa with jewelry by Carolyn Roumeguere. Inspired by that continent's Maasai tribe, with whom she grew up, the designer says, “I like to think of my work as a bridge between tribal people and modern society.” Each of her one-off pieces is hand crafted in Kenya by Maasai women using traditional techniques and luxury materials. Choose this magnetizing choker to anoint your every entrance. Rows of pink sapphires form a sparkling cascade, bisected by a column of gold-leaf enrobed beads. Suspended from this array is a pear-shaped disc of coral, accented with raw diamonds. To each end of the leather-thong necklace, an antique East African colonial coin and 18K-gold filigree Hand of Fatima – said to ward off evil spirits – project their ancient fascination.
